Watson is a computer system designed by IBM to tackle general knowledge style queries. It combines natural language processing, machine learning and rapid access to large quantities of text from encyclopaedias, news feeds and other human-readable data sources. Watson is famous for defeating human contestents in the US general knowldge TV quiz show Jeopardy! in 2010. Since then it has been adapted for other domains including medical information.
